Thursday July 9th. From the Ministry of Health - Three Additional COVID -19 Cases Detected in Orange Walk. - Given the increasing number of samples that require processing, another set was tested today. - That has allowed us to identify a further 3 cases, they are all minors and are members of a family who had been illegally across the border. The 3 new cases are in Orange Walk bringing their total to 7.
Thursday, July 9th. - Over 200 members of the staff and faculty of the University of Belize (UB) are currently staging a protest in Belmopan where the institution is headquartered. The reason for the protest is to object to the UB Board and President's decision to institute financial austerity measures without their input. - Dr Pio Saqui who organized the protest says that he is pleased with the turnout.
Steven Moss, 26, who was on trial for the shooting murder of Daniel Anderson, 31, was acquitted of the charge this morning, after the Prosecution's main witness failed to show up to testify.
Wednesday July 8th - In what can only be described as a weird turn of events, Punta Gorda Police have arrested and charged 46-year-old Onastacio Sirik for the murder of his nephew Pedro Cus, 26.
Wednesday July 8th. - There is a report that Assistant Commissioner of Police, Marco Vidal, is being hospitalized at a private hospital in Belize City after preliminary reports indicate he experienced breathing difficulties and "stroke-like" symptoms.
