Belize City, February 27, 2022
Garden City FC of Belmopan and Altitude FC enjoyed wins in the Football Federation of Belize’s Top League closing season tournament on Sunday afternoon, even as Verdes FC continues to lead the League by a 1-0 win on Saturday evening.
At the MCC grounds, Shawn Young’s 34’ strike was enough to clinch Garden City’s first victory: 1-0 over winless Caesar Ridge FC.
At the Carl Ramos Stadium, Altitude FC bounced back from their first loss: 0-1 to Pirates the week before, to secure their 3rd win: 1-0 over winless Wagiya, by Luis “Baca” Torres 43’ goal.
At the Ambergris Stadium, Colombian import Juan Carlos Lopez’s goal 16’ led the undefeated Verdes FC to their 4th win: 1-0, handing the San Pedro Pirates their first loss.
Verdes FC seems to have already clinched their berth at Belize’s representative in the upcoming CONCACAF Champions League later this year with a total of 40pts from 28pts from the opening season, and 12pts in the closing season. They need only 8pts more to secure an unbeatable lead, which seems extremely likely, having cruised to 4-0 and 5-0 wins in their first 3 outings.
Altitude FC is their closest rival with 29pts, and would need to win all 6 remaining games to tally a maximum of 47pts, but two of those upcoming matches are against their nemesis, Verdes FC.

Altitude’s import Miguel Garcia and Ashton Torres produced no goals in the 1st half despite the help of Jose Urbina, Andres Orosco, Rene Leslie and Gabriel Ramos Jr at midfield. Down at the other end, CRFC’s import Mathias Barriga and Naim Wilson made no impression on the Altitude defenders.
