At lease 19 Children died in a fire at a school dormitory in Mahdia, Guyana

At lease 19 Children and an adult has died in a fire at the Mahdia Secondary School in Mahdia, Guyana, a town in the middle, interior of the country; about 100miles south of the capital Georgetown.

The incident reportedly happened Sunday night May 21st. and “Officials said that an estimated 57 children were housed in the dormitory. The pupils were from the mountain villages of Chenapau, Karisparu, Micobie and El Paso.”

The 19, mostly female students between the ages of 7 and 16, a 5 year-old (son of the dorm’s administrators) and an adult were sleeping in the dorm facility, and have been identified as:
Tracil Thomas, Lisa Roberts, Delicia Edwards, Lorita Williams, Natalie Bellarmine, Arriana Edwards, Cleoma Simon, Subrina John, Martha Dandrade, Loreen Evans, Belnisa Evans, Mary Dandrade, Omerfia Edwin, Nickleen Robinson, Sherina Daniels, Eulander Carter, Andrea Roberts and Rita Jeffrey.

On Monday the CARICOM Secretarial issued condolence and concern for Guyana, which is in a state of mourning.
