The Strange Secret ‘State-within-a-State’ Could Bankrupt Honduras

About 150 nautical miles southeast of Belize City is the island of Roatan (population 110,000), and by size, just a little larger than San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, and is a part of the country of Honduras.

But recent developments would probably be alarming to just about everyone, and most people think that what you are about to find-out could not happen in this day-and-age.

In some cases the people in a part of Roatan may actually have to leave their homes, as a foreign company has created what can only be described as a country with its own judicial system and Laws, within the borders of Honduras.

But there are 2 sides to all stories; and what is becoming clear is that these experimental enclaves look attractive as an economic solution to poverty in those areas.

The experiment known as ‘Prospera’ is the result of those wanting complete control over everything that affects their business interests; ‘Prospera‘ is devoid from the laws of the country of Honduras.

It is also the result of the past corrupt and weak government that bought into an idea that was advertised as foreign investment.

The situation has created unique problems for Honduras’s sovereignty, and some people are referring to the situation as neo-colonialism.

The following segment is from our friends and collogues at the U.S-based-publicly-funded news organization ‘Democracy Now’, August 9th.

It is no news that the world is changing, these new enclaves are seen by some people as new forms of segregation and experimental autocratic rule in secret; and huge economic disparity between people living right next to each other.

As a result the ‘Xiomara Castro’ administration of Honduras has repealed the law that enabled the creation of the private-economic-development-zone, that can create their own laws, also known as ‘Zete’s .

The company ‘Prospera’ is suing the country of Honduras for US$10.7-billion.
