A search by the Police and the Coast Guard on ‘Southern Long Caye’ (not to be confused with Long Caye) has resulted in the discovery of several prohibited weapons.
The island of Southern Long Caye is 20 miles east-north-east of Dangriga Town and that area has seen numerous drug-plane activity in the past few years.
The Police’s Official Report States:
On Thursday, May 4, 2023, between 4:30 a.m., and 11:00 a.m., a joint operation was conducted with members of the Belize Police Department and the Belize Coast Guard on Southern Long Caye, Stann Creek District.
The team conducted searches within some mangroves which led to the discovery of a bag containing (1) a Black A-K 47 assault rifle, (1) Magazine containing (30) 04-77 live round of ammunition, a small Black plastic bag containing (9) 04-77 A-K live round of ammunition and (7) MK 1982 A-K live rounds of ammunition.
Further searches led to the discovery of the following items:
(1) .45 pistol
(2) Magazines; one containing (10) .45 AUTO RP live round of ammunition and the contained (5) .45 AUTO RP live Round of ammunition.
A plastic bag containing (23) 9mm Aguila brand of ammunition
(1) .40 Smith & Wesson
(3) Blazer .40 S&W and (1) JAG .40 S&W live round of ammunition.
