
OFFICIAL POLICE REPORT
“On Saturday, July 2nd, 2022, at about 6:58 a.m., police responded to a report of a road traffic accident on Cristo Rey Road, Cayo District.
Upon arrival, they observed a male person who was identified as Derrick Banner, a 30-year-old, Belizean Ministry of Works Employee of Santa Elena Town, motionless on the side of the road when traveling from San Ignacio Town towards Cristo Rey Village. Banner was observed with multiple injuries to his body and he complained of pain.
A few feet away officers also observed a green John Deer tractor, overturn. Initial investigation revealed that Derrick Banner was driving the tractor from the direction of San Ignacio Town to Cristo Rey Village when he allegedly lost control and overturn.
Banner was transported to the hospital and whilst undergoing treatment he succumb to his injuries.”
Of Note: A presenter of ‘Channel 7s Sun-UP’ was reportedly near the accident and stated that the tractor reportedly rolled backward down a steep hill and overturned.
A road-traffic-accident (RTA) which happened sometime around 7am. Saturday morning July 2nd. has claimed the life of ‘Lincoln Banner’, an employee of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing (MIDH).
Initial reports are that the tractor overturned and crushed Banner.
He was driving the tractor on the side of the Cristo-Rey Road, which runs from the western Hwy. at Santa Elena to the village of Cristo-Rey.
Banner was transported to the hospital by ambulance (photos) but was pronounced dead on arrival.
