The ministry of Foreign Affairs has indicated that in the past few weeks since the land-borders were opened Belize has become an transit country for many foreign nationals seeking to use Belize as a means of migrating to Mexico and ultimately to the U.S

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) goes on to state that 13 Cuban nationals had entered Belize by irregular means and under the ‘Refugee Program’ they avoid being sent back to their country, and the Ministry subsequently turned them over to the ‘HELP FOR PROGRESS’ Organization, which then housed them in a shelter for refugees. The 13 Cuban nationals then left the shelter (escaped) and their whereabouts are unknown.
