On Saturday Morning February 19th. 21уr-оld Јаhlееl Міtсhеll (Large Photo) and a group went swimming at a sand-pit in the Fresh-Pond area of Burrell Boom. Міtсhеll was seen venturing into the deep area of the pond, and later he was struggling to stay afloat.
Initial reports are that others in the group went for help because non in the group thought they were strong enough swimmers to save him. In response a BDF soldier that lives in the area was called to the scene, and when he arrived Mitchell had already drowned.
The Belize Defence Force (BDF) soldier reportedly retrieved Mitchell’s body from the pond and tried to resuscitate him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
